InnovateAI: The Challenge

Inspiring Young Minds to Build Ethical AI Solutions for a Better World

The Impact Challenge is a one-of-a-kind AI Educational Experience created for students in 3rd through 8th grades. This program introduces young learners to the world of artificial intelligence through hands-on projects, design thinking, and real-world problem-solving.

Unlike traditional STEM programs, InnovateAI empowers students to think critically about the role of AI in society, build with real tools like Scratch and App Inventor, and apply ethical design principles to create solutions for global challenges.

Cohort Schedule

Choose One or Join All Three

The Impact Challenge is a progressive learning experience where each cohort builds on the last, strengthening student knowledge, creativity, and ethical tech skills. First-time participants begin with Foundation: Learn & Create, where they gain essential AI literacy, explore fairness and empathy, and create an animated story that explains their project idea.

Returning students move into Design Mastery: Deepen the Experience, where they turn their ideas into working projects. Students apply design thinking to build, refine, and expand their solutions with real AI models, user-centered features, and improved storytelling.

Those who continue enter Engineer & Test: Think Like a Builder, a repeatable phase where students focus on scalability, real-world application, and advanced design. Students can repeat this stage as often as they like, each time growing in technical ability and leadership, until they graduate to InnovateAI: The Showcase in high school.

Sessions include rotating speakers and fresh content, so returning students always get a new experience. Recordings are available for flexible, global access.

  • Each student creates a solo project that includes:

    • A Scratch or App Inventor build

    • A trained AI model

    • A project reflection

Projects are judged using a transparent rubric across five key categories:

    1. Scratch/App Technical Use

    2. Design Thinking Application

    3. AI Integration

    4. Communication & Creativity

    5. Effort & Completion

  • The Impact Challenge is a 100% virtual program. Students from anywhere in the world can participate as long as they have internet access and a device such as a laptop or tablet.

  • The Impact Challenge is designed for students in grades 3rd through 8th who are curious about artificial intelligence, design thinking, and creating solutions that make a difference in the world.

No prior technology experience is required.

  • Students should plan to spend 1 to 2 hours per week working through the digital workbook and building their project.

  • Live sessions are optional but we encourage attendance / watching the playback as they serve as enrichment. They include guest speakers, project reviews, and Q&A.

All sessions are recorded so students can watch them later if they cannot attend live.

  • Students use free tools such as Scratch or App Inventor to create their projects, and ML for Kids to train their AI models. No paid software or special hardware is required.

  • Tuition includes:

    • digital workbook

    • project templates

    • access to all tools and trainings

    • live expert sessions

    • personalized feedback on submissions
