A Strategic Partnership Exploring Acoustic Energy Harvesting and Community Climate Innovation
IIF and Sense Our Sounds Project are forming a strategic partnership to support the responsible exploration of acoustic energy harvesting and expand community participation in climate innovation.
The partnership brings together IIF’s commitment to education, innovation, technology access, community development, and public trust with the Sense Our Sounds Project’s focus on sound, vibration, citizen science, and emerging renewable energy possibilities.
Together, the organizations will create a structured pathway for research, education, collaboration, and future pilot development.
Exploring the Potential of Sound & Vibration
Sound and vibration contain energy. Acoustic energy harvesting is the process of capturing a portion of that energy and converting it into usable electrical power. We will approach the technology with curiosity, technical responsibility, and honest public communication. Through our partnership we will explore where the technology may provide practical value, understand its current limitations, and identify what research is needed to move it forward responsibly.

Partnership Focus
Research & Technical Understanding
IIF and Sense Our Sounds Project will work to create a clear foundation for continued exploration.
This may include reviewing existing research, identifying technical questions, connecting with knowledgeable professionals, examining realistic applications, and determining what measurements are needed to evaluate performance.
The work will clearly distinguish between what acoustic energy harvesting can currently accomplish and what remains a future research opportunity.
Community Education & Citizen Science
New technologies become more meaningful when people can understand them.
The partnership will explore educational resources that explain acoustic energy harvesting in clear and practical language. Communities may also have opportunities to participate in observation, learning, data collection, and appropriately designed citizen science activities.
This may include identifying local environments where sound and vibration are consistently present and helping people understand how acoustic measurements and research are conducted.
Project & Pilot Development
IIF will help Sense Our Sounds Project organize its purpose, research priorities, project structure, community engagement, public communication, and potential pilot opportunities.
The partnership will explore small-scale demonstrations where appropriate. Possible areas may include environmental sensors, infrastructure monitoring, marine environments, equipment monitoring, and remote data collection.
Each opportunity will be considered according to technical feasibility, safety, environmental responsibility, community value, and measurable performance.
Supporting Ireland’s Climate Future
Sense Our Sounds Project began with a focus on Ireland and its continued movement toward a more sustainable future.
Established renewable energy systems will remain central to that future. Acoustic energy harvesting may have value as a complementary technology in selected environments, particularly where low-power devices, monitoring systems, or consistent sources of sound and vibration are present.
The partnership will explore whether the technology may help support environmental monitoring, extend the operating life of small devices, reduce dependence on disposable batteries, or recover limited amounts of energy that would otherwise dissipate.
