Impact Innovation Foundation is developing the Peak Performance Research and Education Initiative in partnership with Peak Performance Institute in Newton, Massachusetts. This IIF project examines how recovery practices and performance technologies affect stress, sleep, focus, physical recovery, and overall well-being. Its purpose is to produce reliable findings that help individuals, practitioners, and communities make informed decisions about practices intended to support human performance.
Why This Research Matters
People increasingly seek ways to manage stress, improve sleep, recover from physical demands, and maintain their ability to function well in daily life. Understanding which practices produce measurable changes, how long those changes last, and who benefits requires carefully designed research.
IIF and Peak Performance Institute are developing a research program that brings consistent measurement to these questions. Findings will inform educational resources, practitioner knowledge, and future research.
Research Focus
-
Stress and nervous system regulation. Planned studies examine how selected recovery practices affect perceived stress, heart rate variability, and the body’s response to physical and emotional demands. Research will combine participant feedback with appropriate biological measurements.
-
Sleep and recovery. Research priorities include the relationship between recovery practices, sleep quality, fatigue, and physical comfort. Planned comparisons will help determine whether changes extend beyond the immediate experience of a session.
-
Focus and cognitive performance. The research program includes questions about attention, reaction time, working memory, and decision-making. Selected studies will examine whether measured changes in brain activity correspond with changes in performance.
-
Physical recovery. Planned research examines soreness, mobility, perceived recovery, and selected performance measures following physical activity. This work will help build knowledge relevant to active individuals and athletes.
-
Measurement accuracy. The project also includes evaluation of the tools used to measure outcomes. Comparing readings with established reference methods will help determine whether those tools provide consistent, useful information.
Education and Community Access
The project will translate research into accessible information about stress regulation, sleep, recovery, and well-being. Planned activities include public workshops, practitioner education, student engagement, and resources that explain findings in everyday language.
Participate in the Project
IIF welcomes inquiries from researchers, universities, practitioners, community organizations, and funding partners interested in contributing to the Newton project. Collaboration opportunities include study development, measurement, education, and community access.
